  • Derek’s Tips

    • Most people know that replacing your old windows and doors is one of the best choices a homeowner can make for a more efficient home. Get an even better R-value rating by strapping rigid insulation to the exterior just after you've replaced the windows and before putting on new siding. It will save you money in the long run.
    • Replace your old heat sources with a new high efficiency furnace, heat pump, hot water tank, or fireplace
    • Adding more insulation to the attic can improve your energy efficiency

Rebates and grants

Derek and the Big Valley team have the experience and contacts within the industry to save you money. We are familiar with government grants and specific rebates that help the homeowner. Big Valley Homes and Renovations is a licensed builder and CHBA member , also a WorkSafeBC company, to provide you with the upgrades that qualify for rebates and grants.

Fortis BC

If you’re an existing BC Hydro or BC Gas customer, and you’re renovating, upgrading or building a new home with energy saving features you may qualify for a modest grant. Or, switch to natural gas, change your fireplace, or add some insulating features in your renovation to qualify for other rebates.

BC Hydro

BC Hydro offers rebates for eligible upgrades to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Rebates will vary by year but may be approximately:

  • Insulation: up to $1,200
  • Ductless Heat Pump: $800
  • Ventilation Fan: up to $50
  • Draftproofing: up to $500 (require the support of an energy advisor)
  • Natural gas hot water heaters
  • EnerChoice fireplaces
  • A $750 bonus offer for making three or more eligible upgrades.
